HB157 Summary

• Requires persons without a Class M motorcycle license or endorsement to pass a motorcycle knowledge test administered by the Department of Public Safety before operating a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle.

• Allows Class M endorsements or Class M motorcycle licenses to be issued to persons age 16 or older, and Class M licenses restricted to motor-driven cycles to persons age 14 or older.

• Applies graduated driver's license restrictions on hours of operation (Section 32-6-7.2) to any person under age 18 operating a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle, regardless of how long they have held a motorcycle license.

• Subjects persons under age 18 operating motorcycles or motor-driven cycles to license suspension for violations of the graduated driver's license hours of operation requirements.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
