HB 183 Summary

• Provides a four percent cost-of-living salary increase for state employees, legislative personnel, and county health department employees beginning October 1, 2012, with exceptions for elected officials and employees covered by labor agreements.

• Grants four percent salary increases to K-12 certificated and support personnel across all city and county school systems, with increases applied by experience step on the State Minimum Salary Schedule.

• Provides three percent salary increases for two-year postsecondary institution employees and four percent increases for employees of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind.

• Conditions all salary increases on passage and enactment of a companion House Bill requiring unitary business taxpayers to use combined reporting and limiting corporate deductions to seven percent of qualifying income and 50 percent of adjusted basis of qualified property.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor, with provisions stating that no employee shall be dismissed or have salary reduced due to pay raise requirements.
