HB186 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 9-3-18 to authorize the state, counties, municipalities, and other public governmental entities to donate money, property, equipment, and other items of value to organized volunteer fire departments, rescue squads, and nonprofit air rescue organizations.

• Designates volunteer fire departments, rescue squads, and air rescue organizations (including South Alabama Air Rescue, Incorporated) as public in nature organizations that protect public health, safety, and welfare.

• Allows organizations receiving donations to dispose of any property received under this section, unless the donating agency specifies otherwise at the time of donation.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.

• Passed by the House on March 8, 2012 and the Senate on May 16, 2012.
