HB21 Summary

• Amends Section 36-29-14 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add United Ways of Alabama and its member United Ways to the list of entities eligible to participate in the State Employees' Insurance Board health insurance coverage.

• Allows eligible organizations to elect participation by resolution in compliance with State Employees' Insurance Board rules, with their officers, members, employees, and retired employees becoming eligible for health insurance coverage without liability to the state.

• Participation is optional with the State Employees' Insurance Board, and eligible individuals receive coverage and benefits as designated by the board.

• Employers must remit required premiums to the State Employees' Insurance Board through their chief fiscal officer and provide necessary information to the board.

• Withdrawal from the plan requires six months' written notice by certified mail, with the withdrawing employer responsible for all claims incurred prior to withdrawal and subject to interest charges at 1.5% per month on overdue payments.
