HB 246 - Honest Campaign Act of 2012

• Establishes the Honest Campaign Act of 2012, replacing criminal penalties with civil fines for late filing of campaign finance reports.

• Imposes a fine of $100 per day for each day a candidate fails to timely file a contribution and expenditure report to the Alabama Secretary of State.

• Requires the Alabama Secretary of State to collect a $100 fine for each candidate required to file an amended report of contributions and expenditures.

• Provisions become operative at the next election cycle after the effective date of the act.

• Act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
