Requires sheriff candidates and appointees to be United States citizens.

Requires one year residency in the county and voter registration in that county prior to election or appointment.

Requires candidates to be at least 25 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalence.

Requires three or more years of prior law enforcement service with power of arrest.

Prohibits anyone convicted of a felony from serving as sheriff.
