HB40 Summary

• Amends Section 36-29-14 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add United Ways of Alabama and its member United Ways to the list of entities eligible to participate in the State Employees' Insurance Board health insurance coverage.

• Allows United Ways organizations' officers, members, employees, and retired employees to elect coverage under the State Employees' Insurance Board without liability to the state or the Health Insurance Plan.

• Participation acceptance is optional with the State Employees' Insurance Board, and coverage and benefits are designated by the board.

• Employers must remit required premiums to the State Employees' Insurance Board, with costs potentially paid by the employer and withdrawal requiring six months' notice by certified mail.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
