• Amends Section 36-27-1 of the Alabama Code to expand the definition of "State Policeman" under the Employees' Retirement System to include capitol police officers.

• Currently, capitol police officers are not covered under the same retirement system as state troopers; this bill brings them into the state employee retirement system.

• Defines "State Policeman" as an employee in the classified service under the Merit System Act approved by the State Personnel Board to perform duties of highway patrolman, capitol police officer, beverage control agent, or crime investigator.

• Excludes members employed as policemen under Section 36-27-6 from this definition.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
