• Creates the Alabama Interagency Council for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and establishes membership requirements including representatives from 26+ state agencies and organizations.

• Defines six types of elder abuse: emotional/psychological abuse, material exploitation, neglect, physical abuse, self-neglect, and sexual abuse applying to persons age 60 and above.

• Council must meet at least bi-monthly, adopt internal operating rules, and develop a comprehensive statewide system of care plan reviewed semi-annually with reports to the Chief Justice, Governor, and Legislature by the 10th legislative day of each regular session.

• Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court appoints the council chair and designates the lead agency, which bears responsibility for general administration and monitoring of all council activities.

• Council is subject to the Alabama Sunset Law with a termination date of October 1, 2015, and every four years thereafter unless continued, and becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval.
