HB437 Summary

• Amends Section 9-2-14 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add two additional members to the Advisory Board of Conservation and Natural Resources who must be commercial fishermen.

• The two new members are appointed by the Governor from a list of nominees (not more than two nominees per position) submitted by associations organized in Alabama that represent commercial seafood fishermen and the seafood industry.

• Nominating associations must substantially represent the commercial seafood fisherman and seafood industry, with membership fairly representative of seafood interests economically, educationally, and socially.

• The Governor may appoint the best qualified candidates only if satisfied that the nominees meet the standards and fairly represent seafood interests, including demonstrated experience in promoting seafood consumption and marketing.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
