HB 444 Summary

• Amends Section 16-40A-2 of the Alabama Code to modify minimum content requirements for sex education programs in public schools.

• Removes the requirement that sex education curricula emphasize that "homosexuality is not a lifestyle acceptable to the general public."

• Removes the requirement that curricula emphasize that "homosexual conduct is a criminal offense under the laws of the state."

• Retains all other existing minimum curriculum requirements including abstinence education, contraception information, sexual abuse prevention, and parenting skills instruction.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
