HB471 Summary

• Prohibits business entities, property owners, and public or private employers from establishing policies against persons transporting or storing firearms or ammunition in privately owned motor vehicles when the firearm or ammunition is kept from ordinary observation and either attended in the vehicle or locked in the trunk, glove box, or securely affixed container.

• Authorizes civil actions for damages and attorney's fees for persons injured or incurring damages from violations, and for persons denied the opportunity to transport or store firearms or ammunition to obtain injunctive relief.

• Requires employers to reinstate terminated employees, restore benefits and seniority rights, and compensate for lost wages and attorney's fees if the employee was discharged for violating a prohibited firearm transportation policy.

• Provides limited immunity from liability for business entities, property owners, and employers for damages or injuries resulting from another person's actions involving transported or stored firearms, unless the entity intentionally solicited or procured the injurious actions.

• Excludes persons prohibited from possessing firearms under state or federal law, violating state weapons statutes, or storing firearms in locations expressly prohibited by federal law.
