HB547 Summary

• Establishes a solicitor's fee assessed in all civil cases in Walker County district and circuit courts, equal in amount to the docket fee or court costs assessed in civil cases and distributed to the Fair Trial Tax Fund.

• Distributes collected fees monthly with $12 from each case going to the circuit court clerk's office and the remainder to the solicitor's fund or district attorney's fund in Walker County.

• Allows the circuit clerk or district attorney to expend solicitor's fees at their discretion for legitimate law enforcement purposes and office expenses.

• Automatically repeals the solicitor's fee on September 30, 2014, at which time collection of the fee in civil cases shall cease.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
