AL HB554

Abolishes the Office of the Mobile County Treasurer upon expiration of the current term or if a vacancy occurs before the term expires.

Transfers all treasurer duties, functions, records, assets, and property to the Mobile County Commission, with all merit employees becoming commission employees.

Existing county depositories continue in place unless removed by Mobile County Commission resolution.

Mobile County Commission shall commission an audit of the treasurer's accounts and assumes no liability for prior errors or omissions.

Repeals Act 336 (1880-81), Act 175 (1884-85), Act 91-459 (1991), and Act 97-535 (1997) relating to the treasurer position; becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
