HB718 Summary

• Amends Section 29-2-250 of the Code of Alabama to revise the membership composition of the Alabama Commission to Reduce Poverty.

• Adds seven new member positions appointed by: the Alabama Alliance to End Homelessness, Business Council of Alabama, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Alabama Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, and Alabama Industrial Development of Training Institute (AIDT), and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).

• Commission membership shall remain inclusive and reflect the racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity of the state.

• Maintains existing provisions requiring the commission to meet at least once every four months and submit annual reports to the Legislature by the seventh legislative day of each regular session.

• Sets annual expenditure limit of $5,000 and became effective three months after passage.
