HB 755 Summary

• Amends Section 6-5-332.3 of the Alabama Code to modify the technical specifications for automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

• Removes the requirement that an AED must "request delivery" of an electrical impulse, allowing devices that automatically charge and deliver impulses without operator intervention.

• Establishes that AEDs must be FDA-approved, capable of detecting ventricular fibrillation or rapid ventricular tachycardia, and determine independently whether defibrillation is needed.

• Requires persons and entities acquiring AEDs to ensure user training through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or equivalent courses; maintain devices per manufacturer guidelines; involve licensed physicians in oversight; and notify local emergency services of AED locations.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval, or upon becoming law.
