HJR117 - Honoring Ulysses S. Reed, Jr.

• Honors Ulysses S. Reed, Jr., a native of Mobile, Alabama, who has been married for 24 years and is the father of four children and a member of Holmes Street Missionary Baptist Church in Prichard, Alabama.

• Recognizes his 13 years of service in the United States Army with three combat tours in Vietnam, earning three Bronze Star Medals for Heroism, the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism, the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement While Participating in Aerial Flight, and the Purple Heart Medal before his honorable discharge in 1975 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

• Commends his 28 years of service as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service and his 10 years of service as financial secretary of the National Association of Letter Carriers Postal Union, during which he received the Expert Driver Award for 25 years of exceptional safe driving.

• Recognizes his Masonic career beginning in 1974 in Germany and his subsequent leadership roles, including appointment as Deputy of the Oasis in 1992 and Deputy of the Desert in 1993, as well as his service as president of the Deep South Shrine Coalition.

• Adopted by the House on February 21, 2012 and by the Senate on February 28, 2012.
