HJR 55 Summary

• Creates a Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Task Force consisting of legislators, medical professionals, government officials, and patient advocacy representatives totaling approximately 21 members.

• Task force shall assess the current and future impact of CKD on Alabama residents, examine existing services and resources, and develop a comprehensive state response strategy addressing trends, treatment, prevention, long-term care, and caregiver support.

• Task force must submit a State CKD Plan to the Governor and Legislature by the end of the quadrennium in which it was created, then dissolve.

• Legislative members receive regular compensation and per diem for attendance; non-legislative members reimbursed according to their respective agency policies; annual task force expenses limited to $1,000.

• Task force shall hold public meetings, utilize webcasts for feedback, create up to three advisory sub-task forces, and regularly update Alabama's Congressional Delegation on CKD-related health care and transportation needs.
