Dr. Alma Foggo York of Huntsville, Alabama died on February 9, 2012, at age 74.

Dr. York was a Harvard School of Public Health graduate and the first Black instructor of nursing at Boston Hospital for Women.

She served at Oakwood University from 1982-1997 in multiple leadership roles including Director of Nursing, Director of International Programs, Associate Dean of Women, and Director of Placement Services.

Dr. York was a prominent figure in the Seventh-day Adventist Church with recognition at the national and international levels.

The House of Representatives expresses deepest sympathy to her family, particularly her daughter Lisa Cox, and honors her legacy as a trailblazer and dedicated health care professional.
