SB109 Summary

• Continues the Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board until October 1, 2016, pursuant to the Alabama Sunset Law.

• Removes the board's authority to discipline licensees by private reprimand, limiting discipline to public reprimands only (no more than two per appraiser).

• Board retains authority to investigate licensed appraisers and impose license suspension or revocation, levy fines up to $500 per violation, or require completion of education courses for violations of state law or board regulations.

• Specifies 17 categories of disciplinary violations including fraud, incompetence, contingent fee arrangements, failure to maintain records, and failure to notify the board of civil or criminal actions related to appraisal practice.

• Act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
