SB114 Summary

• Continues the existence and functioning of the Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board under Alabama Sunset Law until October 1, 2016, with code sections 34-37-1 to 34-37-18 expressly preserved.

• Allows current board members serving as of January 1, 2011, to continue serving until successor members are appointed and qualified, and requires all future members to remain in office until replacements are appointed and qualified.

• Requires board appointments to be subject to Senate confirmation, with the Governor designating terms not to exceed four years for each appointee.

• Establishes mandatory board composition of seven members appointed by the Governor: one master plumber, one journeyman plumber, one registered professional engineer, one municipal or county building official, one master gas fitter, one journeyman gas fitter, and one public-at-large member with no industry connections.

• Mandates board membership reflect the state's racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity, and requires all members to be Alabama citizens.
