SB171 Summary

• Amends Alabama law to add the United States Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card as an acceptable document to demonstrate eligibility for business transactions with the state or political subdivisions.

• Allows persons to present a valid Uniformed Services card in lieu of documents listed in Section 31-13-28, verification through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program, or other Department of Homeland Security verification.

• Business transactions covered include applying for or renewing motor vehicle license plates, driver's licenses, nondriver identification cards, and business licenses; does not include marriage licenses.

• Maintains existing prohibitions on aliens not lawfully present from entering into business transactions with the state or political subdivisions, and bars violations as a Class C felony.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
