SB25 Summary

• Changes gubernatorial veto override requirement from simple majority to three-fifths of the whole number elected to each house of the Legislature.

• Eliminates the Governor's ability to pocket veto bills presented within five calendar days before final legislative adjournment.

• Extends the Governor's decision period for bills presented near adjournment from 10 days to 15 days after final adjournment to approve or disapprove legislation.

• Requires bills presented within five calendar days before final adjournment to be returned by the Governor within 15 days after adjournment or automatically become law if not disapproved in writing.

• Amendment requires voter approval through referendum conducted according to Sections 284 and 285 of the Alabama Constitution.
