SB278 Summary

• Amends Section 31-2-8 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to clarify that the Alabama State Defense Force serves as an augmentation force to the Alabama National Guard.

• Authorizes the Governor to organize, equip, train, and maintain the State Defense Force only when the National Guard is in federal service or when the Governor declares an emergency by executive order.

• Places the State Defense Force under the command of the Adjutant General and specifies it is a temporary force.

• Grants the Adjutant General authority to adopt and amend rules governing the activities and employment of the Alabama State Defense Force as deemed necessary.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
