SB340 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Sections 34-21-85, 34-24-122, and 34-24-292 to authorize certified registered nurse practitioners, licensed chiropractors, and licensed assistants to physicians to refer patients to licensed physical therapists for treatment.

• Certified registered nurse practitioners must be in active collaborative practice with a physician licensed to practice medicine to make referrals.

• Licensed chiropractors are authorized to refer patients to licensed physical therapists without restriction from Section 34-24-191.

• Licensed assistants to physicians supervised by a licensed physician may refer patients to licensed physical therapists for treatment.

• Bill becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
