SB349 Summary

• Removes the requirement that veteran dependents' scholarship benefits be limited to service rendered during "wartime or extra hazardous conditions" as previously established by the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

• Extends educational scholarship benefits for postsecondary education to dependents (wife, widow, or child) of any veteran based on any service, regardless of conflict period.

• Reverses a January 2011 Department of Veterans' Affairs policy change that restricted benefits to only dependents of veterans who served during designated conflict periods.

• Amends Section 31-6-11 of the Code of Alabama 1975 by striking language requiring service during wartime or extrahazardous conditions as a condition of eligibility.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
