AL SB416

Prohibits inmates in custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections from establishing or maintaining accounts on Internet-based social networking websites.

Defines social networking websites as those allowing users to create public profiles or offering communication mechanisms such as forums, chat rooms, email, or instant messaging.

Makes violation of this prohibition a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

Excludes the bill from Amendment 621 constitutional requirements by defining it as creating a new crime.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
