SB497 Summary

• Eliminates duplicate and multiple filings of the same information by requiring each report to include all reportable transactions since the most recent prior report without duplicate reporting.

• Establishes monthly reporting (by the second business day of the subsequent month) beginning 12 months before any primary, special, runoff, or general election in which a committee receives contributions or makes expenditures.

• Requires weekly reports on Mondays during the four weeks before an election covering all reportable activities for the previous week.

• Mandates daily reports filed with the Secretary of State on the eighth through second day before statewide elections if a committee receives or spends $5,000 or more on any day, with daily reports including all activity since the most recent prior report.

• Requires electronic filing beginning with the 2014 election cycle for legislative, state school board, and statewide elections (except for committees receiving $10,000 or less per cycle), and establishes that monetary balances in reports shall begin at the amount shown in the most recent prior report.
