SB515 Summary

• Amends Section 9-2-14 of the Alabama Code to add two additional members to the Advisory Board of Conservation and Natural Resources who must be commercial fishermen.

• The Governor appoints the two commercial fishermen members from a list of no more than two nominees per position, nominated by state-organized associations representing commercial seafood fishermen and the seafood industry.

• Nominee organizations must substantially represent the commercial seafood fisherman and seafood industry and demonstrate membership apportioned fairly across seafood interests economically, educationally, socially, and effectively.

• The Governor must verify nominees meet the established standards and fairly represent seafood interests before appointing the best qualified candidates to the board positions.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
