AL SB561

Establishes the crime of trespass on a school bus in the first degree, classified as a Class B misdemeanor.

Prohibits willfully demolishing, destroying, defacing, injuring, burning, or damaging any public school bus.

Prohibits entering a public school bus while doors are open for loading/unloading, at railroad grade crossings, or after being forbidden by the bus driver or school official.

Prohibits refusing to leave a school bus on demand of the authorized bus driver or school official, and prohibits willfully stopping, impeding, delaying, or detaining any public school bus in operation.

Exempts children under 12 years of age and authorized school personnel boarding as part of their job assignment from the prohibitions on entering, refusing to leave, and stopping the bus.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
