AL SB85

Amends Section 34-36-13 of the Alabama Electrical Contractors Act to allow electricians licensed by a county or municipality to obtain state licensure without examination.

Requires applicants to submit an original letter from their issuing county or municipality confirming passage of a nationally recognized electrical examination, with no outstanding complaints against the applicant.

Applicants must also provide the name and address of any third-party agency that administered the examination and a copy of their valid county or municipal electrical contractor's license.

The Alabama Board of Electrical Contractors must review applications at regular meetings and mail approved licenses within 10 business days, or provide explanation of non-approval.

Preserves authority of counties and municipalities to require their own examinations for electricians working within their jurisdictions, but holders of statewide board licenses are deemed qualified to work anywhere in Alabama with proper permits and business licenses.
