SB89 Summary

• Creates the Alabama Lifespan Respite Resource Network (Alabama Respite) as the statewide entity to support family caregivers of children and adults with health care needs and coordinate respite care services.

• Establishes the Alabama Lifespan Respite Coalition composed of representatives from state agencies, advocacy groups, family caregivers, and respite care providers, with members serving three-year terms and meeting at least twice annually.

• Designates Alabama Respite to maintain a directory of respite services, provide technical assistance to community organizations, offer voucher funding to eligible caregivers, and operate a toll-free number and website (www.alabamarespite.org) for information and referrals.

• Authorizes use of federal Lifespan Respite Care Act funds for program development, direct care services, worker training, information provision, and caregiver assistance in accessing services.

• Effective date is the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
