SB97 Summary

• Increases the penalty for willfully changing an absentee voter's ballot or promoting illegal absentee voting from a Class C felony to a Class B felony.

• Applies the enhanced penalty to persons who vote more than once by absentee ballot, vote for another voter, falsify absentee ballot applications or verification documents, or solicit illegal absentee voting.

• Extends the same Class B felony penalty to persons who aid unlawful absentee voting, knowingly vote absentee illegally, or vote both absentee and regular ballots in the same election.

• Requires the Attorney General to provide investigating assistance to local district attorneys or the Secretary of State in instances of absentee ballot or voting violations upon request.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
