• Expresses legislative opposition to the United States Bureau of Land Management's scheduled June 14, 2012, lease sale of over 43,000 acres of Alabama national forest land for oil and gas development.

• Identifies concerns that much of the land contains shale formations targeted for natural gas extraction through horizontal hydraulic fracturing and is located near water supply sources for the City of Anniston, Fort McClellan, the Anniston Army Depot, and other municipalities.

• Notes that some parcels contain popular recreation areas, trails, and streams used for swimming and fishing.

• Urges the United States Bureau of Land Management to remove all Alabama national forest parcels from the June 14, 2012, lease sale to protect drinking water and forest resources.
