SJR11 Summary

• Urges the State Department of Education and Alabama Department of Public Health to encourage all public K-12 schools to establish school-based influenza vaccination programs.

• Programs must be operated by health care providers or community immunizers who handle vaccine ordering, insurance applications, and administration at no cost to uninsured children.

• Vaccination is voluntary and requires written parental consent; students cannot be refused vaccines regardless of insurance status.

• Program must follow Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations for children ages 5-19 years and only use FDA-approved vaccines.

• Schools must include program information and consent forms in student/parent information guides distributed at the beginning of each school year, with vaccinations offered as soon as vaccine becomes available through the entire influenza season.
