• Recognizes East Elementary School on its 75th anniversary, originally founded as Cullman Elementary School in 1936 as a Public Works Project under President Franklin D. Roosevelt

• School achieved accreditation in 1963 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and currently ranks in the top three percent of Alabama public elementary schools based on student achievement

• Designated as a 2008 National Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School of Excellence and 2009 CLAS Banner School; achieved 100 percent Reading Proficiency with its 2010-2011 6th Grade class

• Operates one of Alabama's top Reading Programs without Title I funding or a basal reading program, selected as Runner-up for the 2011 Exemplary Reading Program Award
