HB 139 Summary

• Amends Section 11-43-50 of the Alabama Code to authorize a municipal council's presiding officer to cancel a meeting if written notice indicates a quorum will not be present.

• Allows council members to notify the presiding officer in writing when unable to attend a meeting.

• Permits the presiding officer to cancel the meeting and provide notice that it is canceled upon receiving sufficient written notice that a quorum will not be available.

• Allows the presiding officer to reschedule a canceled regular meeting with proper notice as required by Section 36-25A-3.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval or upon otherwise becoming law.
