HB218 Summary

• Allows registered voters who are domestic violence victims or custodians of minor domestic violence victims to request omission of their residential and mailing addresses from the computerized statewide voter registration list maintained by the Secretary of State.

• Requires submission of a written signed affidavit by the registered voter affirming either that they or a minor in their legal custody is a domestic violence victim, or that a domestic violence protection order has been issued by a judge or magistrate.

• Applies the address omission requirement to all generally available lists of registered voters distributed by election officials, except for lists provided to federal and state agencies.

• Requires municipal clerks, judges of probate, absentee election managers, and registrars to redact protected addresses from copies of poll lists and absentee voter lists made available to the public.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
