HB269 Summary

• Amends Section 28-3A-17.1 of the Alabama Code to expand entertainment district provisions for Class 1, 3, 4, and 5 municipalities, plus municipalities located 15 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico.

• Class 3 municipalities and municipalities 15 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico may establish up to five entertainment districts (previously limited to two).

• Class 8 municipalities located in a county with a Class 3 municipality may establish one entertainment district (previously two) within corporate limits.

• Each entertainment district must contain at least four licensees holding retail liquor licenses and cannot exceed one-half mile by one-half mile in area, though districts may be irregularly shaped.

• Patrons of licensed premises in entertainment districts may carry open containers of alcoholic beverages and consume them anywhere within the district boundaries, but cannot bring beverages into other licensed premises.
