• Write-in votes permitted only in non-municipal general elections; voter must write name on ballot and mark the designated space to cast a valid write-in vote.

• All write-in ballots returned on election night to central county location; canvassing board determines whether write-in votes can affect election outcome before counting proceeds.

• For multi-county elections, each county's judge of probate forwards write-in vote totals to Secretary of State, who makes final determination on whether to count the votes.

• Write-in votes must be counted by duly appointed election officials on or before noon on the Tuesday seven days after the election if determined to affect the outcome.

• Any qualified elector may request within two business days of election that write-in votes for any office be counted, with the requesting elector paying actual counting costs.
