Amends Section 36-27-8.2, Code of Alabama 1975, regarding restrictions on retirees of the Employees' Retirement System (ERS) who seek employment with ERS or Teachers' Retirement System participating employers.

Exempts law enforcement officers certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission at the time of retirement from annual compensation limits and permanent full-time employment restrictions that normally apply to ERS retirees.

Retains existing restrictions for non-law enforcement retirees: they cannot work in permanent full-time positions and cannot earn more than $17,000 annually in calendar year 2000 (adjusted annually by Consumer Price Index thereafter).

Maintains existing provisions allowing retired elected officials to serve in public office without suspension of retirement benefits, provided they do not participate in additional retirement benefits and comply with applicable earning limits.

Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
