HB42 Summary

• Amends Section 13A-11-74 of the Alabama Code to permit transportation of pistols to and from established shooting ranges without a pistol permit.

• Requires that pistols being transported must remain unloaded and secured in the vehicle trunk during transport.

• For vehicles without a trunk, pistols must be secured in a locked container located outside the passenger area of the vehicle.

• Applies only to persons lawfully permitted to possess pistols and who are transporting them for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
