HB425 Summary

• Increases the elected membership of the Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama Board of Control from 10 to 11 members, maintaining the four ex officio members for a total of 15 trustees.

• Removes the Executive Secretary of the Alabama Education Association as an ex officio member, reducing ex officio positions from four to three.

• Eliminates one educational support personnel position and adds one higher education position, with the new higher education seat beginning July 1, 2015.

• Changes vacancy filling procedures from Board of Control appointment by simple majority vote to appointment by the Governor.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval.
