HB461 Summary

• Amends Section 25-5-67 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to increase the maximum burial expense allowance under workers' compensation law from $3,000 to $6,500.

• Applies when a covered employee dies as a result of an employment-related accident or occupational disease, requiring the employer to pay burial expenses in addition to medical and hospital expenses.

• Maintains existing requirement that if a dispute arises regarding the reasonable value of burial services, the amount must be approved by the court before payment with reasonable notice to interested parties.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
