Allow retired municipal police officers, deputy sheriffs, or other law enforcement personnel certified by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission to serve as part-time school resource officers in Etowah County schools.

Part-time school resource officers are ineligible for health insurance or retirement benefits beyond those already received from prior full-time employment but may be required to work full school day schedules during regular school operation.

Part-time school resource officers must be certified by the commission but are waived from meeting physical examination requirements.

Part-time school resource officers retain all rights, privileges, and powers of commissioned law enforcement officers and chiefs of police or sheriffs receive civil liability immunity for their actions in this capacity.

Hiring preference in municipalities with their own police force goes to retired municipal police officers, while unincorporated Etowah County areas give preference to retired deputy sheriffs; pay rates are discretionary and not tied to existing pay scales.
