• Marshall County Commission may establish one or more volunteer fire districts to provide fire protection and emergency services within unincorporated areas of the county.

• Qualified electors in an established fire district may petition for a referendum to impose a fire protection service fee not to exceed $10 per month on occupied residences, dwellings, and businesses.

• Fire protection service fees shall be collected like ad valorem taxes and distributed to fire districts (minus 5% administration fee) for vehicles, equipment, operations, training, supplies, and insurance.

• Persons qualifying for the Over 65/Disability Special Homestead Exemption are exempt from paying the fire protection service fee.

• Upon dissolution or abandonment of a fire district, remaining funds and assets shall be transferred to the Marshall County Association of Fire Departments and Rescue Squads for reallocation to remaining volunteer fire districts or departments.
