HB 619 Summary

• Reallocates county sales tax proceeds earmarked for indigent care for counties that have filed Chapter 9 bankruptcy petitions and received an Order for Relief under Section 921(d) of the Bankruptcy Code.

• Distributes reallocated tax proceeds as follows: 25% to county general fund, 15% to programs for indigent families for housing/transportation/food, and 60% for indigent health care.

• Terminates the reallocation upon the earliest occurrence of: a court vacating the Order for Relief, dismissal of the Chapter 9 case under Section 930, or confirmation of a debt adjustment plan under Section 943 of the Bankruptcy Code.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon becoming law by other means.
