AL HB623

Authorizes the Sheriff of Bibb County or authorized agents to operate a jail store for prisoners within the county jail to serve the jail population.

Allows the sheriff to contract with a provider to supply and operate the jail store.

Requires all proceeds from the jail store to be deposited in the county general fund and earmarked solely for funding salary increases for sheriff's department employees.

Mandates the sheriff maintain an account of all jail store sales, with audits conducted by the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts at the same time as other sheriff accounts and submitted to the sheriff and county commission within 30 days of completion.

Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
