HB97 Summary

• Amends Section 9-3-18 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to authorize state agencies, counties, municipalities, fire districts, water districts, sewer districts, garbage districts, and school districts to donate money, property, equipment, or other things of value to organized volunteer search, air, and rescue squads.

• Designates organized volunteer search, air, and rescue squads (including South Alabama Air Rescue, Incorporated) as public in nature organizations that protect public health, safety, and welfare, making them eligible recipients of government donations.

• Permits recipient organizations to dispose of donated property pursuant to Alabama Code Article 6, Sections 41-16-120 to 41-16-125, unless the donating agency specifies otherwise at the time of donation.

• Became effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.

• Passed the House on April 2, 2013 and the Senate on May 20, 2013.
