Recognizes and honors the legacy of Linden Academy, established in 1903 by trustees of four Baptist Church Associations to provide high school education for Black youths in Marengo County.

Notes that Reverend E. W. Shields provided 10 acres of land for the school and taught there, and that George P. Austin served as principal before the school was renamed George P. Austin High and Elementary Schools.

Acknowledges that the school's graduates became solid citizens and produced two notable alumni: Autherine Lucy, the first Black person admitted to the University of Alabama, and Reverend Dr. Ralph Abernathy, a founding leader of the civil rights movement.

Directs that a copy of the resolution be provided to the Superintendent of the City of Linden School System for display in the system's central office and school.
